Kozina, 1st of July — The dual border municipality, the Municipality of Hrpelje-Kozina, has become the 36th member to join EZTS Mobilitatis Omni (in formation). We reached an agreement with the mayor of the municipality, Saša Likavec Svetelšek, on the municipality’s support for the grouping’s programme and the transformation of Mobilitatis Omni into a European Grouping for Territorial Cooperation.
Another border municipality, the Municipality of Žetale, is now the 30th member of the Mobilitatis Omni grouping. The primary goal for the Municipality of Žetale is the restoration of frequency connections, with coordinated schedules between intercity bus transportation and nearby railway connections. Such connections were present in the municipality’s past, and there’s no reason why they shouldn’t continue in the future.
With the mayor of the Municipality of Šmartno ob Paki, Janko Kopušar, we have signed a Letter of Intent. The Municipality of Šmartno ob Paki has thus joined, as the first municipality from the Savinja region, the Mobilitatis Omni grouping. Šmartno ob Paki will soon acquire a completely new railway stop on the Celje–Velenje line. For this railway line between Celje and Velenje, we propose an upgrade within the Mobilitatis Omni as part of the corridor, which we have named the Paka–Savinja–Sotla.
Happy and resilient and happy new year. May 2024 bring us peace in the world. Let the impossible become possible by working together.
The municipality of Puconci, a municipality in Mura region, joined the Mobilitatis Omni association before the new year. We We agreed with the mayor of the municipality, Uroš Kamenšek, Master of Tourism, that the Municipality of Puconci joins the Mobilitatis Omni association as the 23rd member. We cooperated more than well with Mayor Kamenšek, also through the position of president of the Mura Tourist Association. We look forward to co-working in the future.
The municipality of Šentilj, a border municipality with more than 8,000 inhabitants, is a new member of the Mobilitatis Omni institute and the consortium of the Central European Alliance for Sustainable Mobility. We are very grateful to the mayor of the municipality, mag. Štefan Žvab, for concluding an agreement on the annexation of the Municipality of Šentilj to the Institute and Consortium of the Alliance.
We have published an assessment of the state of the railway infrastructure and connections for the Mura and Drava regions and last but not least for the Carinthia region, including the border regions of neighboring countries in Austria, Hungary and Croatia.
Although the main railway lines in Slovenia have mostly been renovated, this is certainly not the case for the border parts of these main railway lines. It is particularly worrying that the regional border lines have very poor capacities, are not in the plans for upgrades and also have poor or non-existent connection frequencies.
A key feature of the Mura region is that two of the three railway lines in this region are non-operating. In the Drava region, a key characteristic is the fragmentation of routes and the low frequency of railway connections (with the exception of the connections between Maribor and Ljubljana), especially to and from the border parts of the region. The Carinthian region has the only remaining railway line with very low frequencies of train connections.
The municipality of Kuzma, another border municipality, is a new member of the Mobilitatis Omni institute and the consortium of the Central European Alliance for Sustainable Mobility. We concluded an agreement with the mayor of the municipality, Jožef Škalič, on the incorporation of the Municipality of Kuzma into the Institute and Consortium of the Alliance.
The municipality of Cankova is a new member of the Mobilitatis Omni institute.
Last week, we concluded an agreement with the mayor of the bordering Municipality of Cankova, Danilo Kacijan, on the inclusion of the Municipality of Cankova in the Mobilitatis Omni institute and the consortium of the Central European Alliance for Sustainable Mobility.
We are very grateful for the trust shown and look forward to cooperation in the field of sustainable mobility development, especially public passenger transport, both rail and intercity bus.
Happy New Year, may it be a pleasant and sparkling 2023.
That we are stronger and more resistant to all challenges, that together we realize Melita Osojnik’s children’s song:
“We take the train, we have a good time,… We drive here and there, from Izola to Hodoš,…”.
Good luck, on behalf of the institute, Marko Savić
