Brief info

Professor Koželj is considered the main figure in the transformation of Ljubljana into a green capital. In his research work, he systematically focuses on the study and development of operational methods in the design of the contemporary city.

Having taught Urban Design at the Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana, Professor Koželj has been the protagonist of the contextual approach to city planning. Since 1995 Koželj's interest has shifted to the strategic issues of contemporary urban design. Focusing his research on the contemporary city, professor Koželj relates analytical results to his built projects. Janez Koželj's urban studies and outlines of architecture were published in several books and have received many national and international awards for architecture.

Since 2006, Koželj is Deputy Mayor of Ljubljana Municipality, responsible for urban and traffic planning, urban design, and the environment. The main task of his office is to introduce the policies of sustainable development of the city.
